p1040621Esther Ortega, PhD

STS course that examines how the production of identities—gender, sexual, racial/ethnic—and the creation of social differences based on those identities have been generated, in part, through their medical classification as “disorder” and their subsequent insertion into biomedical classification systems. At the same time, course analyzes how these assigned identities have become the basis for collective political action that includes self-identity and the right to difference within a human rights framework.
