Self-Care Abroad
Here are our suggestions for developing your own self-care practice abroad. If you have any suggestions for additions to this list, please let us know! Remember, there’s no universal “best” or “right” answer when it comes to finding effective self-care methods—figure out what works best for you.

Out in the City
—Take a walk, explore a new neighborhood:
- Some ideas for walking routes HERE
—Start a positivity journal
—Get some rest!
- Acknowledge culture shock and language fatigue.
- Treat mental exhaustion just like physical exhaustion.
—Treat yourself—do something because it makes you happy.
—Exercise & stretch:
- Run, swim, bike, do yoga, etc.—whatever feels good to you.
—Pay attention to just being—be mindful of your day-to-day activities:
- Riding the train
- Entering the program center
- Waiting for your coffee
- Walking to the metro
- Sitting in a park
—Remind yourself that “This is water, this is water…”
—Put your phone on airplane mode (or leave it at home!)
—Chat with someone new.
—Sign out of social media.
