Jamás he actuado en una obra de teatro, pero siempre me ha apasionado ver obras y musicales porque me producen muchísima emoción. Una de las cosas que aprecio de este programa es el reembolso de actividades culturales porque me ha permitido ver muchísimas obras de teatro y musicales en Madrid. Ha sido una de mis experiencias favoritas ya que no solo puedo ver espectáculos buenísimos, sino que poco a poco he ido conociendo el mundo del teatro en Madrid, incluso he podido conocer a actores luego de funciones y visitar el “backstage” de algunos musicales.

Aquí están algunos de mis espectáculos favoritos (aunque la verdad todos son buenísimos, pero si incluyo todos este post sería demasiado largo):

El musical de Anastasia se estrenó en Broadway en el 2016 y yo he tenido la fortuna de haber viajado a Nueva York a verlo tres veces. Este musical lo llevó muy cerca de mi corazón, así que cuando me di cuenta de que estrenaba en Madrid compré mis entradas enseguida. Tuve la oportunidad de ir en su noche de estreno y visitar el “backstage.” Aunque ya he visto el musical fue una experiencia increíble poder verlo en mi lengua nativa. Me produjo muchísima emoción escuchar las canciones que me encantan en inglés cantadas en español, y creo que hizo que este musical fuera aún más especial para mi.

Cuando compré entradas para ver Una corona para Claudia no tenía idea de lo que se trataba. Me parece una historia súper bonita que tiene un final muy inesperado. Creo que este musical es tan popular porque habla de temas muy reales y hace que nos sintamos identificados con los personajes. El teatro es pequeño y es un espacio muy íntimo, lo cual te ayuda a sentir una conexión más fuerte con la historia. Me fascinó muchísimo y vale la pena ir a verlo.

Un clásico en el teatro musical es West Side Story y cuando me enteré de que se estrenó en Madrid no me pude resistir ir a verlo. Me quede sorprendida de la calidad de show, el talento del elenco y lo bien que hicieron la traducción al español. Una de mis cosas favoritas de este musical es la coreografía y sin duda que el elenco aquí en Madrid no se queda atrás, los bailarines son increíbles especialmente los actores que hacen el papel de Bernardo y Anita.

Con una de mis clases fuimos a ver la obra La Sección Femenina, que trata sobre las mujeres en la época del franquismo español. Lo más interesante de esta obra fue conocer esa historia de mujeres en una época en la cual se mencionan muy poco. Al final de la obra, las actrices le entregaron al público una nota que reflexiona sobre cómo incluso las mujeres que estaban en el bando ganador de la historia también han sido borradas ya que al final todas somos mujeres y nuestra historia siempre es segunda a la de los hombres. Este sentimiento me impacto muchísimo.

En fin, podría hablar de muchas obras más que he visto (y que me falta por ver) pero no quiero que este post sea muy largo. ¡Lo que sí importa decir es que Madrid tiene un mundo del teatro muy amplio y hay muchísimo que explorar!

I’ve never been in a play, but I’ve always been a fan of live theatre and musicals because it brings out many emotions. One of the things that I appreciate about this program is the cultural activities reimbursement because it has given me the opportunity to see many plays and musicals in Madrid. This has been one of my favorite experiences here because not only have I seen great shows, but little by little, I have been getting to know Madrid’s theater world. I’ve even been able to meet actors after performances and visit the “backstage” area of some musicals which has been a truly unique experience.

Here are some of my favorite experiences (although the truth is that they have all been fantastic, but if I include all of them in this post it would be too long!):

The musical Anastasia premiered on Broadway in 2016, and I have been fortunate to have traveled to New York to see it three times. I have a personal connection to this show and it is very close to my heart, so when I realized it was premiering in Madrid, I bought my tickets right away. I had the opportunity to go on opening night and visit the “backstage” area. Although I’ve already seen the musical a few times, it was an incredible experience to be able to see it in my native language. It was emotional to listen to the songs I love in English sung in Spanish, and I think it made this musical even more special for me.

When I bought tickets to see Una corona para Claudia (A crown for Claudia) I had no idea what it was about. Now I can say that it’s a super nice story that has a very unexpected ending. I think this musical is so popular because it talks about very real issues and makes us feel identified with the characters. The theater is small and a very intimate space, which allows one to feel a stronger connection with the story and the characters in it. I absolutely loved every minute of this show and would highly recommend others see it.

West Side Story is a musical theater classic and when I found out that it premiered in Madrid, I could not resist going to see it. I have also seen this show before, but I was surprised by the quality of the show, the talent of the cast and how well in translated into Spanish. One of my favorite things about this musical is the choreography and without a doubt that the cast here in Madrid excels in that aspect. The dancers are absolutely incredible, especially the actors who play the role of Bernardo and Anita.

One of my classes took us to see La Sección Femenina (The Female Section) which tells the story of the women involved in the Franco dictatorship. The most interesting part of this play was to learn of the history of these women who lived in an era in which they were almost erased. At the end of the play, the actresses gave the audience a note that reflects on how even the women who were on the winning side of the Spanish Civil War have also been erased, since in the end we are all women and our story is always second to that of men. This is something that I had not really ever reflected on, and it was what impacted me the most about seeing this play.

Anyway, I could talk about many more shows that I’ve seen (and still planning to see) but I do not want this post to be so long. What is important to say is that Madrid has a very broad theater scene and there is a lot to explore!
