I am mostly doing basic administrative tasks such as scanning documents. It is great to have experience working at an NGO and I enjoy interacting with my Spanish coworkers. Ash Delmore, Skidmore. Spring 2023
So far, I have done various tasks for the organization to help them with larger projects or to help them stay organized. For example, to help them with their goal of reducing their overall energy consumption, I have worked on quantifying how much energy the organization used in 2019 by looking at many bills and creating spreadsheets with the information I gathered. I also have been working at their fairtrade store where I organized all their receipts from 2021 and some from other years, and am now doing research on fairtrade. Chloe Faehndrich, Skidmore. Fall 2021

I have liked it. The work can be pretty tedious since it’s just translations, but the stuff I’m translating can be pretty interesting and informative. All of the people there are very nice and fun/interesting to talk to. Alicia Bellido, Tufts. Spring 2020
I would highly recommend this internship. It was a laid back experience where I was able to get exposure to an NGO and how they operate within Spain. I learned a lot, practiced my Spanish, and ultimately had a very fufilling experience. Elliot Lam, Tufts. Fall2019

I am working with Alianza por la Solidaridad primarily on translation (from Spanish to English) and research for several classes on women’s rights and sustainable development that they are producing. I would recommend the internship for someone that is interested in these topics and comfortable working mostly independently with little guidance. Jenna Clark, Tufts. Fall 2019
Amaya Ramsay-Malone, Skidmore. Spring 2019
I am currently helping out in Alianza’s fair trade store in la casa encendida. I am helping gather information to better the store and the community of la casa encendida. I have also learned how to use the cash register and help make sales to customers. Kelsey Narvaez, Tufts. Spring 2019

I am working with them on outreach and documentation for a public exhibition they have put up that centers around international environmental injustices perpetrated by Spanish corporations. I am working on outreach, giving tours, and write-ups for this project. Amaya Ramsay-Malone, Skidmore. Fall 2018

This semester, I had the opportunity to intern for the non-profit NGO Alianza por la Solidaridad. This internship was an excellent introduction to the international development and human rights field. My work consisted largely of researching and translating resources from Spanish into English. The experience has provided me with insight into the world of international humanitarian aid, a solid foundation of new vocabulary, and, most importantly, the opportunity to engage in global social justice and sustainability initiatives in a productive, tangible manner. Olivia Sessions, Skidmore. Spring 2018
For two hours each week I work in their fair trade store, taking inventory, reorganizing the store, and working on a brochure to teach the customers more about the benefits of fair trade. For the other two weeks, I travel to their office where I translate documents from English to Spanish and Spanish to English. Isabel Falls, Tufts. Spring 2018
Mi práctica en Alianza por la Solidaridad. Kelsey Dion, Tufts. Fall 2017
My goal was to open up the Madrid sector of Alianza Por La Solidaridad to the English-speaking world. To do this, I wanted to make the main webpage accessible in English. So, I have dedicated my time at my internship to translating the organizations website, which contains information on all of ALS’s past, current, and future projects, and opportunities to volunteer, petition and donate….I have also met a lot of very kind, hard-working, selfless people at ALS and am very glad I decided to intern here. Maya Talwar, Tufts. Spring 2015
I enjoy this internship because I have the opportunity to learn about the issues associated with international agricultural development, a field I might want to pursue after college. What interests me in particular is the concept of “land grabbing”, the process in which a company acquires land from a local community without prior informed consent of the people occupying the land. … More information.
